Mezzo-soprano Charlotte Clapperton made her professional debut at the Wigmore Hall in 2021, where she performed Schubert’s Ave Maria as part of a vocal sextet alongside artists Steven Isserlis and Alina Ibragimova. She recently greatly enjoyed performing the title role in the Royal Academy Opera Autumn production of Carmen.

Charlotte covered the roles of La Merè/The Queen in the Royal Opera House production of Larmes de Couteau/Full Moon in March.

Other recent performance highlights include Zweite Dame in Die Zauberflöte, Der Sandmann in Hänsel und Gretel and Courtier in The Burning Fiery Furnace. She looks forward to performing the roles of Erste Norne in Götterdammerung and Mistress Quickly in Falstaff, in the upcoming RAO Spring Scenes.

Previous roles include Public Opinion in the Royal College of Music production of Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld (2022), Maman / La Tasse Porcelaine / La Libellule in RCM’s double bill of Resphigi’s La Bella Dormente nel Bosco / Ravel’s L'enfant et les Sortileges (2023), and Tom Thumb in RCM’s production of Larsen’s Barnum’s Bird (2023). Charlotte also enjoyed playing the roles of Rosina in Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Peep-Bo in Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado in Royal Academy Opera’s 2022 Summer Opera Scenes.

Charlotte is a student at the Royal Academy Opera Studio, studying with Mary Nelson and Iain Ledingham. She is the recipient of the Derek Butler Award, and is supported by the Josephine Baker Trust. She was honoured to receive both first prize and song prize at the prestigious Richard Lewis / Jean Shanks award 2025.

Charlotte completed a postgraduate degree at the Royal College of Music in 2024 where she studied with Dinah Harris and Caroline Dowdle, and received a distinction Masters of Performance. She completed her undergraduate years in Vocal Studies in 2022 at the Royal Academy of Music, where she studied with Catherine Wyn-Rogers and Matthew Fletcher and gained a first class degree with honours.

Charlotte is also a keen performer of oratorio works as a soloist including Mozart Requiem, Mozart’s Solemn Vespers, Haydn’s Nelson Mass, Durufle’s Requiem, Faure’s Requiem, Vivaldi Gloria, Mendelssohn Elijah and Bach Christmas Oratorio.

Alongside her singing, Charlotte enjoys playing the violin and viola. She frequently supports the British Suzuki Group Bryanston course where she is responsible for looking after the many teenagers on this residential course and can often be found using her singing skills leading a movie singalong. Charlotte greatly enjoys encouraging younger people to become active in music and teaches private students western classical singing and violin.
